I don't know if telling the truth will be a disservice and make the restaurant owner even busier? Because of the hard work year after year, they are no longer young. Without making an appointment, we read the reviews on Google and entered the store at 6:30 in the evening. We were locked inside and the boss did not intend to accept any more customers. We were in the group of guests, and we watched the other guests who were unable to enter the door, and felt a little happy in our hearts. We were the last lucky ones to come in. In the completely unadorned old house, we could eat the essence of southern food. Like everything that appears in this house, there is no trace of makeup, all real materials, no commercial additives, Kung Fu dishes made with love for decades, I will not talk about the crayfish, which is world-famous. New Orleans cuisine still has its deep charm.
We were on our way to grand isle and we love to try the local cuisine, it's a small restaurant but the food is fantastic!! The best crab 🦀 cakes and I've never had a crab burger, it was fantastic! Highly recommended 👌 👍
My wife and I were attending a festival in Morgan City and came across this little place by accident. The most amazing downhome food and hospitality! Makes you feel like you were back at Grandma’s house for Sunday dinner. I had fried catfish, potato salad and white beans over rice. My wife had catfish, green beans and Cajun shrimp rice. Everything is home cooked in this tiny place off the beaten path. Structure is filled with awards, articles and pictures from decades of Rita Mae’s cooking. It’s not fancy but I highly recommend it. Specials of the day change so you should be able to find a plate that suits you.
I took someone there today who asked what type of food we have local to eat. I told her my treat then to Rita Mae’s. I have introduced this place to many over the years and enjoy watching their face light up lol fried fish, sides were shrimp and sausage jambalaya, and cabbage. With their bread pudding. I have never been there where my food was even close to what I call bad. Ever. I did find out they are moving in January ( 2027) so watch for that. Nice to know some things don’t change 💕✌️

Rita Mae's Kitchen was founded by the esteemed Rita Mae, who is now 83 years old. Her son Harry continues to manage it and her daughter Cathy is in cook there, while Rita May herself stays home. and makes crab cakes and other delights to send in.. The restaurant is in a tiny home in Morgan City. The servings are phenomenally huge. Fried catfish poor boy barely fit on the plate, and the shrimp and okra gumbo came in a bowl so large. I was extraordinarily surprised if it didn't hold almost a quart. They have red beans and rice for $8 on Monday and homemade goodies like sweet potato pie, bread pudding and peach or blackberry cobbler. The pork chops were the biggest I've ever seen. And they were delicious. Try out Rita May's if you want to find a sweet little hideaway with great food!
No frills and unpretentious . Just straight up love and deliciousness! This gem is a must visit in Morgan City! Other customers raved about EVERYTHING! They aren’t kidding!The menu changes daily and the crab roll is absolutely amazing! I also made room for the Peach Cobbler and it was fantastic! Visit this place and ask for Miss Rita and Little Rita! They are awesome!
What a gem! First time visitors and was blown away the the quality of food served here. Do not settle with first impressions here. Order everything and do not skip out on the bread pudding...DO NOT. THE best crab cakes we've ever had !
Crab burger was delicious. Best onion rings I have ever had. Sweet tea was fresh and not overly sweet. Great meal.
